The simplest eSIM Singapore option is one you install before you fly: it connects to Singtel 5G as you land at Changi, needs no passport, and costs $2.00 per GB with no expiry. Every local prepaid SIM in Singapore is registered to a passport, visitors are limited to three prepaid lines, and passport-registered lines are suspended after 30 days.
This page covers eSIM Singapore basics: what it costs, Singtel coverage on the MRT, stopovers, ID rules, setup, and an honest comparison with Changi's cheap tourist SIMs. The same balance also works on a ferry day trip to Batam in Indonesia.
How much does eSIM Singapore data cost?
$2.00 per GB, billed per MB from a USD balance that never expires; a one-time $5 setup fee applies to a new eSIM.
One rate: $2.00/GB, metered per MB against a prepaid USD balance โ this is how our no-KYC eSIM works, and the balance never expires. No daily passes, no expiring bundles, no throttling tiers - unused credit stays on your eSIM forever and works in the next country you visit.
| Top-up | Data in Singapore | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|
| $5.00 | โ 2.5 GB | $2.00/GB |
| $10.00 | โ 5.0 GB | $2.00/GB |
| $20.00 | โ 10.0 GB | $2.00/GB |
| $50.00 | โ 25.0 GB | $2.00/GB |
A one-time $5 setup fee applies to a brand-new eSIM; top-ups to an existing eSIM carry no fee. Rates are pay-as-you-go, so light days cost cents and heavy days just draw down the balance faster.
What should you look for in an eSIM Singapore plan?
Check the network, the price per GB, expiry, hotspot, ID requirements, onward coverage and calls.
- Network. Look for access to Singtel, which has 5G in every MRT tunnel. Anon eSIM uses Singtel.
- Pricing model. Day-based bundles charge for time; per-GB billing charges for what you use. Anon eSIM is $2.00/GB.
- Expiry. Many bundles expire after 3โ30 days. An Anon eSIM balance never expires, so leftover data is still there on your return stopover.
- Hotspot. Some plans limit tethering. Anon eSIM includes it at full speed.
- ID and account. Singapore SIMs need a passport and count toward a three-line limit. Anon eSIM needs no ID and no account.
- Onward trips. Check that Indonesia, Malaysia and the rest of your route are covered on the same eSIM.
- Calls and texts. Most travel eSIMs, including Anon eSIM, are data-only. Use WhatsApp, Signal or FaceTime for calls.
What is arriving at Changi like?
Changi sells cheap tourist SIMs in every terminal but registers your passport; a pre-installed eSIM is on 5G before you reach immigration.
Changi sells tourist SIMs in every terminal, at Changi Recommends counters, convenience stores and money changers, and they're quick and cheap. They still register your passport. A pre-installed Anon eSIM is on Singtel 5G as you leave the aircraft, which helps on a short stopover when you'd rather spend the time in the city than in a queue.
How much data does a Singapore trip use?
Most visitors use 300โ600 MB a day, so a four-day trip is about 1โ2.5 GB.
Four days in Singapore: Grab, MRT, maps, food apps, messaging
4 days ยท 1โ2.5 GB ยท $ 2.00โ$5.00 at $2.00/GB
Singapore visitors use 300โ600 MB a day on Grab, maps, food-delivery apps and messaging. Four days is 1โ2.5 GB, or $2.00โ$5.00 at $2.00/GB. Changi and most malls, hotels and cafรฉs have free Wi-Fi.
Which network and speeds do you get in Singapore?
Singtel, with 5G across the island and in every MRT tunnel.
Anon eSIM connects through roaming agreements with Singtel, with 5G typically available to roamers. Your phone picks the strongest partner signal automatically and re-selects as you move - there is nothing to configure.
Full-island 5G. The MRT, Changi, and Sentosa are all covered.
Singtel covers the whole island with 5G, and in September 2024 it became the first network to cover every MRT line and tunnel with 5G. Changi, Sentosa, Marina Bay and the HDB heartlands are all covered. Singapore has no meaningful dead zones; the only weak spots are deep inside some buildings and car parks.
StarHub, M1 and SIMBA aren't among Anon eSIM's listed partners here, so your phone connects to Singtel.
The APN is provisioned automatically with the eSIM profile. You do not need to enter APN settings manually on iOS or Android - the only switch you must flip is Data Roaming: ON for the Anon eSIM line, because the service is technically a roaming profile everywhere it operates.

Does it work on the MRT?
Yes. Singtel has had 5G on every MRT line, including the tunnels, since September 2024.
That includes the Changi Airport branch, so you can ride into the city connected. Buses, the Sentosa Express and most underground malls are covered too.
You can tap a contactless bank card or phone wallet at MRT gates, so you don't need to buy a transit card before you have data.
How do you set up your Singapore eSIM?
Before you buy, check that your phone supports eSIM and isn't locked to a carrier on our compatible devices page. For a full walkthrough, see how to use an eSIM for international travel.

Do you need a passport for an eSIM in Singapore?
Not for a roaming eSIM: Singapore's ID rules, three-line cap and 30-day suspension apply to Singapore SIMs, not a visitor's foreign profile.
Under IMDA rules, every prepaid SIM in Singapore must be registered to an ID, and visitors use their passport. Each person can hold at most three prepaid lines across all operators, and since July 2024 passport-registered lines are suspended after 30 days unless re-registered with a local ID. A roaming eSIM issued abroad isn't a Singapore subscription, so none of these rules apply: Singtel simply sees a visiting roamer.
That's what makes Anon eSIM an anonymous eSIM in Singapore: no passport, no account and no ID at checkout. Your payment provider and the networks you connect to still see their own data, such as payment details and your device's identifiers.
On arrival: Changi is one of the most efficient SIM-buying airports in the world - kiosks are 24/7. Still, eSIM saves twenty minutes and preserves anonymity.
Typical speeds: 150-500 Mbps on 5G island-wide, including MRT tunnels. Prices from the live rates data: $2.00/GB, metered per MB against a prepaid USD balance.
Registration status
Passport required for local SIMs
Anon eSIM sidesteps this entirely - the eSIM is issued from an ID-free jurisdiction and you use it as a visitor's roaming SIM in Singapore. No local paperwork.
How does Anon eSIM compare with a Singapore tourist SIM or a bundle eSIM?
Changi tourist SIMs are cheaper for a week of heavy use but need your passport; Anon eSIM suits stopovers, no-ID travel and multi-country trips.
| Option | Typical price | ID check | Data expiry | Onward countries |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anon eSIM | $2.00/GB ($10 for 5 GB) | None | Never | Same eSIM and balance |
| Singtel hi!Tourist | S$10 for 7 days / S$15 for 30 days* | Passport | 7 or 30 days | 18 GB Asia-Pacific roaming on the 30-day pack |

| Bundle eSIM (e.g. Airalo) | From about $4 for 1 GB / 3 days* | Email account | 3โ30 days | Varies by plan |

Singapore is one of the few places where a local tourist SIM beats us on price for a week-long stay. The eSIM wins on stopovers, when you'd rather not register your passport, and when the trip continues to other countries.

Can one eSIM cover a stopover and day trips from Singapore?
Yes. The same balance works on the way back through Changi and on trips to Indonesia and Malaysia.
Batam is about 45 minutes away by ferry; in Indonesia the eSIM attaches to Telkomsel at $2.40/GB. For Malaysia and other onward stops, check the rates page.
Because the balance never expires, data left over from the outbound stopover is still there when you pass through Changi on the way home.

eSIM Singapore FAQ
Is it worth it when Changi SIMs are so cheap?
+
If you're staying a week or more and want lots of data, a local tourist SIM is better value. The eSIM makes sense for stopovers, for arriving connected, if you'd rather not register your passport, or if you're continuing to other countries on the same balance.
Does it work on the MRT?
+
Yes. Singtel has 5G across all MRT lines and tunnels.
Can I use it on a day trip to Batam or Johor Bahru?
+
Yes. In Indonesia the eSIM attaches to Telkomsel at $2.40/GB; check Malaysia's current rate on the rates page. The switch happens automatically as you arrive.
Do I need a Singapore number for Grab?
+
No. Grab works with a foreign number registered to the app.
Is hotspot included?
+
Yes. Your eSIM Singapore balance covers hotspot at full speed, so you can tether a laptop at Changi during a layover.
Can I get a Singapore phone number with an eSIM?
+
Not with Anon eSIM. It's data-only, so use WhatsApp, Signal or FaceTime for calls, and keep your home SIM active for texts and two-factor codes.
The bottom line
The easiest eSIM Singapore setup is one you install at home: no passport, $2.00/GB on Singtel 5G, and a balance that carries over to your return stopover or next trip.
