France has required ID for every prepaid SIM since the 2006 anti-terrorism law, and the airport kiosks at CDG and Orly enforce it. Anon eSIM attaches to Orange or SFR at $0.80 per GB — among our cheapest rates — and the same balance carries you on to Belgium, Switzerland, Spain and Italy without a new plan.

France data pricing

One rate: $0.80/GB, metered per MB against a prepaid USD balance — this is how our no-KYC eSIM works, and the balance never expires. No daily passes, no expiring bundles, no throttling tiers - unused credit stays on your eSIM forever and works in the next country you visit.

$20.00≈ 25.0 GB$0.80/GB
$50.00≈ 62.5 GB$0.80/GB

A one-time $5 setup fee applies to a brand-new eSIM; top-ups to an existing eSIM carry no fee. Rates are pay-as-you-go, so light days cost cents and heavy days just draw down the balance faster.

Arriving in France

Charles de Gaulle and Orly have Relay shops and Orange/SFR counters selling tourist SIMs, all of which require a passport and a French address on the form (the hotel address is accepted). Install Anon eSIM before you fly and you are on Orange as you taxi to the gate; if not, the RER B into Paris and most airport Wi-Fi are enough to complete the install en route.

How much data does a France trip use?

One week Paris plus a TGV day trip: Citymapper, maps, museum apps, messaging

7 days · 2–3.5 GB · $ 1.60–$2.80 at $0.80/GB

Paris visitors average 300–500 MB a day; a week is 2–3.5 GB, or $1.60–$2.80 at $0.80/GB. TGV onboard Wi-Fi is patchy, so a two-hour train with video streaming can add a gigabyte on its own.

Networks and speeds in France

Anon eSIM connects through roaming agreements with Orange and SFR, with 4G / 5G typically available to roamers. Your phone picks the strongest partner signal automatically and re-selects as you move - there is nothing to configure.

Strong nationwide, including TGV corridors. Alpine valleys and deep rural areas can dip to 3G.

Orange has the best coverage in France by a clear margin, including the TGV corridors and much of the Alps; SFR is solid in cities. 5G is available to roamers in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice and Bordeaux, LTE elsewhere. Deep Alpine valleys and parts of the Massif Central drop to 3G or nothing on every network; ski resorts themselves are well covered.

The APN is provisioned automatically with the eSIM profile. You do not need to enter APN settings manually on iOS or Android - the only switch you must flip is Data Roaming: ON for the Anon eSIM line, because the service is technically a roaming profile everywhere it operates.

In-country context: France

Loi n° 2006-64 requires carriers to record the identity of every subscriber, prepaid included, and the data is available to French authorities under the interception framework. There is no anonymous French SIM. A roaming eSIM is outside the law's scope because you are a foreign operator's subscriber, not a French carrier's customer — Orange sees a visiting profile, not a person.

On arrival: CDG and Orly kiosks want your passport for any local SIM. Install the Anon eSIM before boarding; TGV Wi-Fi on the airport train is enough to complete setup if you left it late.

Typical speeds: 50-180 Mbps on 4G; up to 400 Mbps on 5G in Paris, Lyon, Marseille. Prices from the live rates data: $0.80/GB, metered per MB against a prepaid USD balance.

Registration status

Passport required for local SIMs

Anon eSIM sidesteps this entirely - the eSIM is issued from an ID-free jurisdiction and you use it as a visitor's roaming SIM in France. No local paperwork.

Anon eSIM vs a local France SIM and mainstream eSIMs

A Free Mobile or Orange Holiday tourist SIM is €20–40 for 10–30 GB with passport registration; Airalo's France 5 GB / 30-day is about $11 with an account. Anon eSIM is $4 for 5 GB, anonymous, and works in every neighbouring country at $0.80–$0.90/GB. Honest downside: no French number for a restaurant to call you back.

France eSIM FAQ

Does Anon eSIM work on the TGV and Eurostar?

+

Yes on the French side via Orange and SFR, with LTE in most tunnels on the main lines. On Eurostar the eSIM switches to EE/O2/Vodafone as you exit the tunnel in Kent; the balance is shared, only the per-GB rate changes ($0.90 in the UK).

Do I need a French address or passport for the eSIM?

+

No. That is the point. The tourist SIM form at CDG asks for both; Anon eSIM asks for a payment of $5 or more and nothing else.

Will it work in Monaco, Belgium, Switzerland and Spain on the same trip?

+

Yes. The eSIM re-attaches to a local partner as you cross. Switzerland is the exception on price ($2.40/GB, outside the EU roaming agreements); the rest are $0.80–$0.90/GB.

Is 5G available to roamers in France?

+

In Paris and the big cities, yes, on Orange and SFR. Elsewhere LTE at 50–180 Mbps, which is more than enough for maps and video.

Can I pay in euros?

+

Balance is held in USD; your card or Apple Pay is charged in your card's currency at the normal rate. Lightning and USDT are currency-neutral.
