Arriving in Turkey
Istanbul (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen have Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom counters selling tourist packages, typically ₺1,000–1,500 (about $30–45 in 2026) for 20–25 GB, registered against your passport. A pre-installed Anon eSIM is on Turkcell as you leave the aircraft; IST airport Wi-Fi requires a passport scan at a kiosk, so installing before you fly is genuinely easier here.

Networks and speeds in Turkey

Law No. 5809 requires passport registration for every Turkish SIM, and Turkey's IMEI registry blocks foreign handsets used with a Turkish SIM after 120 days unless a registration fee is paid. Both rules attach to Turkish SIMs. A roaming eSIM is a foreign profile: Turkcell sees an inbound roamer, no Turkish registration record is created, and the IMEI clock never starts.
